Ya gotta deceive.

It turns out that all those poetic, positive ruminations about the Mets that dripped like honey from Mayor de Blasio’s Twitter account in the midst of the not-so-Amazin’s failed World Series run weren’t written by the mayor at all.

The city’s No. 1 Red Sox fan inexplicably left it up to a staffer to share the mayor’s deepest baseball emotions, a field of schemes moment if ever there was one.

De Blasio’s Twitter avatar of him fist-bumping Mr. Met never convinced New Yorkers that he had gotten beyond the bandwagon.

But waxing poetic by proxy on a subject as sensitive as the Mets was almost as bad as missing the throw to the plate. (Too soon?)

An unusually personal string of messages from New York City’s most powerful baseball buff Bill de blasio were tweeted out before Game 5 of the World Series. There were actually written by a de Blasio staffer.

So let’s — as the broadcast crew did way too often — go to the replay.

“Something happens when you’re a Sox fan living here for a few decades,” the faux mayor tweeted just before the first pitch of Game 5. “You slowly fall in love with the Mets.”

And that bit about a “faint whiff of hope left hanging in the air” when his beloved Sawx were down in the ALCS 0-3 to the Yankees with their backs against the wall in 2004?

Nope. Didn’t write it. His relief tweeter tossed that one out.

“And of course that bloody sock. I’ve seen magic in this world. Real, honest to god magic …”

Swing and a miss.

The mayor did manage to make it to one World Series game, the Mets’ only win Friday in Game 3.

As for Sunday’s must-win Game 5, de Blasio watched the debacle on TV, according to his spokeswoman, Karen Hinton.

Hinton said that before the game, de Blasio had a conversation with an aide, who like him, also loves baseball.

After the conversation, the aide wrote the first-person tweets, and the mayor approved them all.

“The mayor said, ‘I might have written it a little bit different but it’s fine,’” Hinton said.

After the Citi Field dust settled, de Blasio was philosophical. No, the real mayor, in person this time.

“Let’s put this in perspective,” de Blasio said at a news conference. “Eight good innings. And some tough luck thereafter.”
